Playing in the Pool

Well, it was a warm day here in San Diego. I was working around the house (actually, painting a new canvas backdrop for the studio) when I heard the sounds of our next door neighbor's little girl splashing in a pool. To my ears, that's the sound of photographic gold. :-)

So I grabbed my camera and joined in the fun. Stella was a bit shy at first, but she warmed up pretty quickly.

Finally, I had mom and dad jump in too.

Baby Olivia

It's raining babies! We just got word that one of my clients had a baby girl just a few days ago. Some of you may remember Derek & Melissa's wedding from Inside Weddings - their wedding had a big feature in the magazine. Here's a photo that ended up being published:

You can see more of their wedding at Inside Weddings: Wedding in Red

Baby Olivia has been a handful and there was no chance that they could bring her in for a session. I didn't want to lose the opportunity to photograph her in her newborn state so I headed out the door and did the shoot at their new home. Newborns change so quickly that there's hardly a day to lose!

Eight days old...

From South Park to Balboa Park

We started off in my clients house just a couple blocks away from Balboa Golf Course and the park. The house was a beautiful two story Craftsman bungalow with gorgeous wood built-ins and floors. My wife and I love to walk around this neighborhood just to get ideas for decorating our own house so it was a treat to be invited inside one of these classic houses.

The house sort of inspired me to go with more of an old time look with the photos. I desaturated the photos and shifted the colors a little to look like they had faded with time. I just loved the old door, the light coming in the window and overall look to the house.

Afterwards, we went over to Balboa Park and just played around a little.

For a two year old, this kid could really toss the ball. He even caught it a few times. But he still has a ways to go before he can one-hand it.

Baby Justine

I photographed Jennifer and Roy's wedding a year and nine months ago. Yesterday, they came in for some photos in the studio. Justine was a crawler! She had a great smile and didn't make a fuss. She knew what she wanted to do - and that was crawl everywhere. I let her do her thing and then had mom and dad come in from time to time so that I could get my shot.

This one I shot with a polaroid and let it sit to give it a different look.
