Anatomy of an Advertising Shoot: Happy Client!!!
It's been a week and a few shoots since the I finished my Phoenix production. Things have started to return to normal and it's nice not to be flying all over the place for a while. (Although I do return to Austin at the end of the month.) Anyhow, I thought I'd pass along the final word from the client.
Before I do that, I'll just mention that this was a tough shoot with art direction coming at me from all over. Shots and concepts were changed on the fly. Although I felt strong about the work, I was sure that the client was going to nitpick it to death once they saw the final presentation. Soooo here's what the art director from the advertising agency had to say:
---
Monday was the presentation. THEY LOVED IT!!!! "The photographer really nailed the golden light!" Congrats. Not sure when I can get a pdf to you to show you the selects. Everything is on the fast track.
---
Now, usually art directors are pretty reserved, so to get an all caps exclamation response, well, that means something. It's like an academy award or something. (I'm getting all choked up... I'd just like to thank my family. My crew and all of the little people who helped me along the way... but most of all my forever patient and supporting wife.)
Since I initially wrote this post, I also received an email from the account executive at the agency, here's what he said:
---
To give you an update, the client really loved the photography and the resulting ad campaign. Here’s the client's email to us from yesterday:
Congratulations to everyone. We presented the creative campaign to (our big bosses) today and they absolutely loved it. They felt it was spot-on for Verrado and were extremely excited about its ability to break through. I wanted to share this wonderful news with everyone and once again, share our appreciation for your efforts and vision and celebrate a big success.
So, great job John! You avoided the fangs of the client and being completely (overwhelmed by the art director).* Awesome job

*name deleted to protect the not-quite innocent.
Anyhow, if the client's happy. I'm happy too. :-) For those of you in Phoenix, keep your eyes peeled for those Verrado billboards and ads. Feel free to send over a snapshot of a billboard and I'll post it here.
