Santa Ynez Valley
Now that the holidays have come and gone, I have a some time to catch up on my blogging. One of this fall's trips was to a wedding just over the hill from Santa Barbara in the Santa Ynez Valley. I went to school nearby at UC Santa Barbara so this was sort of a trip to my old stomping grounds. Back then, I was very much the adventurous climber so I was always scouring the hills for undiscovered rocks and cliffs. (I ended up finding a lot more poison oak than anything else.)
Our first stop was the classic Cold Springs Tavern located in the mountains above Santa Barbara. It's an old stagecoach stop with a (semi) gourmet menu. If you're anywhere near the area, it's worth the stop. They're famous for serving crocodile and elk on the menu - I stuck with the chicken though. Jen (my wife) had the crocodile and it was a little too chewy for our tastes.
Here's a shot of the Tavern. If you look closely (you can click on the image for a larger version), you'll see us in the window.

Before the wedding, we spent a day just crusing around. I love the oak trees and wide open spaces so out came the camera.
