Tara & Steve - Mission Bay
Tara and I met about five or so years ago when she was on on the women's field hockey team. I was hired by Sports Illustrated to shoot images for a story on the team while it was training at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. I had a lot of fun on the shoot and we stayed in touch over the years. So, last year, when she asked if I'd be interested in shooting her wedding, I was honored.
It was great seeing her dressed up on her wedding day. She's been on the women's team for years and field hockey has really been her life. Suffice it to say that dressing up in a wedding gown isn't something that she does everyday so it was all the more fun seeing her transform from athlete to bride.

Steve, the groom, was also a field hockey player and not too big on formality either. He peddled up to the ceremony location on his bike. That sort of set the atmosphere for the evening - which was pretty much just have fun.

When it came time to exchange rings, Steve tried to put the ring on the wrong finger which then got everyone laughing.

I had competition at the wedding. He was working at getting the shot. Later, as I was running around during the reception, he tried directing me on what shots to take. Good thing too. Don't know what I'd do if I didn't have a ten year old telling me what to do. ;-)

Good luck to the both of you! I want to photograph some field hockey babies!
